Missed Opportunity

As I note below in a previous blog post, it just seems incredible that nobody has apparently ever publicly asked Rudy Giuliani why he is personally opposed to abortion.

Conservative radio talk show host Hugh Hewitt had the chance to do this recently when he interviewed Giuliani and posed the question of abortion rights to him. After Giuliani did his usual song and tap dance about being personally opposed to abortion but believing pregnant women should have the right to choose it, Hewitt pretty much dropped the ball there and moved on to a whole different subject. Most disappointing to say the least.

One other thing about the aforementioned interview. When Giuliani disclosed that he had seriously considered the priesthood as a young man, but decided not to pursue it because of the vow of celibacy he would have been required to take, Hewitt responded by saying "Ah, good argument." What the hell is that supposed to mean?!

I like Hewitt unless he is in his I-was-raised-Catholic-so-I-can-make-jokes-about-the-church mood. I didn't hear the interview, but it seems like Rudy used this tendency of ex-Catholics like Hewitt to disarm him.

Also, Hewitt goes into interviews with a definite agenda. Unlike the MSM, he readily admits it; that's always his excuse for no followups on certain things that he gives to callers. But I agree -- disappointing.
