California Proposition 8 passes, despite heavy ad spending by opponents and the intentional negatively worded description of the initiative on the ballot.
Expect, of course, the enemies of traditional marriage to again try and overturn the will of the people by going to court. The horrendous decision of Lawrence v. Texas is rearing its ugly head.
Update: Maggie Gallagher notes that similar initiatives passed in Arizona and Florida, bringing the total number of states that protect traditional marriage in their constitutions to 30.
Update 2: MG also noted earlier that blacks played a significant role in the passage of Prop. 8 by supporting it 70-30. Thank you Obama?
