How to Make the GOP Permanently Irrelevant

Little Green Footballs blog czar Charles Johnson channels David Frum in calling for the effective purging of social conservatives from the Republican Party. You see, it's our fault that John McCain lost.

Funny, but I don't recall McCain exactly being the first choice of social conservatives to be the Republican nominee for President. [It was you "fiscal conservatives only" who foisted McCain to the nomination by arguing that his "Maverick" (aka RINO) status would allow him to beat whoever the Democrats nominated]. And except at the Saddleback Church forum where he said the rights of children begin at conception, I never heard or saw John McCain say anything about abortion on the campaign trail. With respect to Sarah Palin, I only once vaguely recall seeing a news report of her saying something about her pro-life beliefs which caused the Obama campaign to spew some banal line about the importance of preserving "choice."

Regarding the supposedly "politically suicidal" position social conservatives have on the issue of gay rights, somebody needs to tell Charles and David that voters in 30 states, including deep blue California, have approved measures that legally define marriage as being between only one man and one woman.

Update: My guess is that having a bunch of petty back stabbing idiots on staff was a major contributor to the ineffectiveness of McCain's campaign.
